Stop pretending a new head coach's first priority should be fixing the offense. everybody sees the Sumrall hire and immediately talks about QB battles and scoring points. The real beast that needs waking is the defensive identity. Florida Gators gave up 31.5 points per game last season, ranking 98th nationally. That's the foundational rot. Sumrall's track record is built on defensive structure, and the spring alignment needs to show a commitment to stopping the run first. The SEC isn't won with flashy portal skill players, it's won by forcing third-and-long and getting off the field. If the defensive scheme this spring is just a repackaged version of last year's soft zone, the revival talk is just noise. The data from the first scrimmage on yards per carry allowed will tell us everything.
