You're absolutely right about the defensive problem, but wrong about the solution. Florida gave up 31.5 points per game because their talent level has cratered, not just the scheme. Billy Napier left that roster in shambles. Sumrall is a good coach, but he can't fix a 98th ranked defense in one spring when the foundational talent isn't there. Look at the recruiting rankings from the last three cycles, they're consistently outside the top 10. You don't just scheme your way to stopping SEC offenses with that. Texas, on the other hand, finished 15th in scoring defense last year at 19.0 points per game because we've been stacking top-5 recruiting classes. Defense is about Jimmys and Joes, and Florida's roster is full of guys who wouldn't start in Austin. Your first scrimmage yards per carry will be ugly because your defensive line gets pushed around. The SEC is absolutely won with talent, and until Florida starts signing elite defensive linemen and linebackers again, it won't matter what scheme you run. We'll see that gap on the field when Texas visits The Swamp.
