ESPN dropping that under-the-radar players piece and everybody wants to talk about the big names at the top of the list. I am looking at that list and I can tell you right now there is a kid on our roster that is going to make people forget we lost KC Concepcion to the draft. The staff has been talking about this guy since spring ball started and the buzz is real. He is not a 247 composite superstar he is a developmental kid who has been in the system and is ready to explode. Watch what happens when we get into the season. Our WR room is deeper than people think and this is the year we prove it.
The spring portal window is dead starting this year and everyone is scrambling to figure out what that means for roster construction. Winter only from now on changes the entire evaluation calendar for programs like ours that rely on finding diamonds late.
Why is nobody talking about the 2027 five-star tracker and where we sit with those 21 elite prospects? ESPN just dropped the full breakdown on every single one and I scnned that list twice. Not a single crystal ball or even a whisper connecting us to any of those top-tier names. I get that we are never gonna out-recruit Georgia and Alabama for the #1 overall kid, but hearing noise that our staff isnt even getting in the room on most of these guys is concerning. Are we just conceding the five...
Everybody acting like Texas A&M landing five-star corners is some massive recruiting win over us needs to pump the brakes hard. Brandon Arrington is a great player sure but I've got sources telling me our staff is quietly building relationships with multiple 2027 defensive backs that are gonna flip the whole narrative. The Aggies are loading up on croots who want immediate NIL bags while we're finding guys who actually fit our system and want to develop. Watch what happens when those crystal ...
Seydou Traore working with Travis Kelce's coach and getting NFL buzz is exactly the kind of developmental story that should be our recruiting pitch to EVERY international prospect. The staff needs to be all over that IPPP pipeline because we proved we can actually develop those raw athletes into draftable players. Hearing noise that we already have some feelers out to the 2027 class about this exact pathway. That kind of niche recruiting advantage is how you steal talent from programs sleepin...
Everybody saying the staff needs to win big in the portal to survive doesn't get how this program actually builds. Watch what our coaches are doing on the recruiting trail this spring. The dead period is over and I'm hearing the OVs are stacking up for June in a way that tells you the long game is working. Three 2027 kids with offers from Georgia and Bama are alreday talking silent commits to us because of relationships our position coaches built during spring practice visits. That's the bagman stuff that actually matters for sustainability. The composite rankings will catch up in December. Trust the process of the staff building trust with these families now.
Everybody acting like a decommitment is the end of the world needs to relax. That crystal ball flip on the 2027 five-star? I heard from a source close to the program that we already have a silent commit from a higher-rated guy at the same position. The staff is playing chess while y'all are panicking over a soft commit that was ALWAYS going to get flipped by bagman from another school. Trust the process.
Three years. THREE YEARS I have been saying that our staff needs to stop sleeping on the JUCO ranks and actually mine those Mississippi junior colleges for real talent. Every spring we sit here and watch Alabama and LSU pluck kids out of East Mississippi and Gulf Coast while our coaches act like the portal is the only path to finding difference makers. Meanwhile Seydou Traore is out here working with Travis Kelce's personal coach and turning himself into a legitimate NFL prospect through the International Pathway Program. That is the kind of raw athletic development story that should be happening AT Mississippi State, not just something we read about on ESPN.
The JUCO sleeper pick conversation is one that our fanbase does not have nearly enough. There are kids playing at Copiah-Lincoln and Northwest Mississippi right now who have the same physical tools as the 4-stars getting crystal balls to Georgia and Alabama. The difference is they need a program that will actually invest in their development and trust the process. We have the coaching infrastructure. We have the SEC platform. What we do not have is the recruiting philosophy that says "let us go find the diamond in the rough before somebody else does."
I keep hearing from sources close to the program that we are prioritizing portal grabs and high school blue-chips. That is fine for filling immediate needs but the JUCO route is how you build depth with guys who have something to prove. Every single one of those kids steps on campus with a chip on their shoulder because they got overlooked the first time around. That is the kind of mentality that wins games in November when the grind gets real.
Give me a 3-star JUCO kid with two years of eligibility and a work ethic over a 4-star high school kid who is already looking at the portal before his freshman season ends. The numbers do not lie. Some of the most productive players in SEC history came from junior colleges. We need to get back to that identity before every other program in the conference beats us to the punch.
The entire conversation about our program right now is missing the forest for the trees because we have a GLARING position of need that nobody in the national media wants to talk about. Seeing all these 2027 class rankings pop up and the draft talk about first-round SEC talent, and it just screams one thing: we have to find the next KC Concepcion. That dude is a first-round lock and our WR room is a massive question mark after his departure. Everyone gets obsessed with the portal numbers or the future class rankings, but the immediate hole is right there at the playmaker spot.
You don't replace that kind of production with just a body. You need a dude who can take a slant to the house and win 50/50 balls in the SEC West. The staff knows it, I'm hearing they're burning up the phone lines for a portal solution right now because the spring winodw is gone, so all the moves have to be strategic and calculated in the winter. We can't just throw a bag at a developmental guy, we need a proven commodity who can step in day one and be the alpha. That's the single biggest key to our offensive success this fall, period.
All the crystal ball predictions for 2027 kids are great, but they don't help us in 2026. This is where the NIL collective has to operate with surgical precision. Find the guy in the portal who wants to be THE man, structure a deal that makes sense, and get him on campus. If we don't address the receiver position with a legitimate game-breaker, all this talk about scheme improvement and quarterback competitions is just noise. The offense will hit a ceiling in November without that go-to weapon.
Mississippi State's entire 2026 season depends on finding a true #1 receiver in the portal, and if we don't, we're playing for a middling bowl game at best.
Everyone saying our class ranking is a problem becaues we don't have a five-star is missing the entire point. The 247 composite is a snapshot, not a blueprint. Look at the teams at the top of those rankings right now. They're built on five-star flips and NIL auctions. We're building a roster.
Our staff is identifying specific system fits in the portal and locking down high-floor, high-character high school croots who want to be here. That's how you win in the new SEC. You think the team that just won the natty last year was loaded with five-stars across the board? They developed. They coached. They found guys who fit. We're doing the same thing. The noise about our ranking outside the top 20 is just that, noise.
The real story is the silent commits we have lined up and the under-the-radar portal takes that will bump our ranking after spring evaluations. Our needs at edge and in the secondary are being addressed with guys who have multiple years of eligibility, not one-year rentals. That's sustainable. The five-star factories lose three first-rounders and have to start over. We're building a program that reloads, not rebuilds. Watch the field this fall, not the recruiting page.
Stop pretending that losing a first-round talent like KC Concepcion is some program killer. Everyone sees that ESPN clip talking about top SEC receivers and panics. The real story is our official visit weekend, where we're hosting the next wave of playmakers who see the production we get from that WR spot. That's how you reload, NOT rebuild.
Calling it now, the new NIL revenue-sharing cap is going to force our collective to get way more strategic. Hearing noise that we're structuring deals with heavy academic and performance bonuses for our top croot targets, not just big upfront cash. That's how you beat the Georgias for a guy when the top-line number is leveled. Our bagmen have to be smarter now.
