wait so luke fickell says his back is against the wall at wisconsin after back to back losing seasons. i get it the big ten is brutal but watching us come into this league and immediately compete makes me. we didn't need multiple years of "trust the process" nonsense. we showed up in the acc and punched teams in the mouth from day one. that transfer from the aac to a power conference thing? we made it look easy compared to what wisconsin is dealing with right now. and our spring game last week showed me the depth we're building is real. the new guys in the portal for us know exactly what they signed up for. no ecuses here. just results.
How can Urban Meyer say Clemson wasn't the best team in 2018? They went 15-0 and beat Bama by 28. Is that the same logic people will use to try and discredit us when we win the ACC?
Watched that piece on Houston's spring game and it just reminds me how much our defensive identity is built on continuity, not chaos. Willie Fritz is over there trying to figure out what he has after a sprring game. We don't need a spring game to tell us who we are. We know. The discipline, the gap integrity, the way our linebackers flow to the ball, that's year-round culture. everybody else is out here rebuilding with 50 portal guys like Oklahoma State or trying to mesh 43 new faces like Colorado. That's a recipe for defensive disaster. You can't buy chemistry in a portal window. Our guys have been in the system, they know the calls, they trust each other. While other teams are learning each other's names in April, we're installing advanced pressures and perfecting our coverage rotations. That head start is everything when you open on the road in a tough environment. People want to talk about flashy recruiting classes or portal rankings, but defense wins when it's eleven guys moving as one. That's our edge. We aren't starting from scratch every April. We're building on a foundation that's already set in stone, and that's why no one wants to face our unit when the lights come on. They can have their spring game revelations. We already know what we've got.
Just saw the news about the court ruling and all I can think is how this is the exact opposite. While other programs are dealing with this kind of negative noise from years past, our entire focus is on developmeent and culture. Look at the portal circus at Colorado or Oklahoma State bringing in 50 guys, that's instability. We're selling a proven path to the league and a stable program, not headlines from old incidents. That's why our 2026 class is quietly stacking the right kind of guys who want to work, not just chase NIL deals. Every other story is about roster turnover, but we're building something that lasts.
Just saw that piece about Georgia's CJ Allen being a sledgehammer and how they produce NFL-ready guys. That's the exact blueprint we're building on the Hilltop, and our staff is doing it better than anyone wants to admit. everybody fawns over the Kirbys and the Sabans, but the real coaching genius is building a machine that doesn't need. Our whole identity now is about ddevelopment and fit. We're not out here grabbing 50 portal guys like some desperate programs, we're being surgical. The coaches are finding the exact pieces that fit our system and then turning them into absolute monsters by the time they leave. That's how you build sustainable success, not just a one-year rental roster that falls apart. People keep sleeping on our staff because we're the new kids in the ACC, but they're creating a culture of pros lowkey. Every single practice, every single meeting, it's about getting guys ready for the next level while they dominate for us now. That's the ultimate sign of great coaching. You watch, our guys are gonna start flying off the board in future drafts just like those SEC factories.
We're not even in the top 25 of that ESPN spring update is a complete joke. They have Texas Tech and Ole Miss ranked, teams that just buy rosters every year, while we build a real program. Our spring practice shows a team that's hungry and ready to dominate the ACC, not just collect talent.
Stop pretending that being rranked in the 10-15 range in these way-too-early polls is some kind of insult. It's a sign of respect that we're even in that conversation consistently now, and it's the perfect spot for us. Everyone obsesses over the top five, but those teams have all the pressure and the biggest targets. We get to fly under the radar with a chip on our shoulder, and our schedule sets up for a run. Look at who we have to play and where we're at in spring. The pieces are coming together, and being ranked right there means we control our own destiny. If we take care of business, we're walking into the ACC championship game with a shot at the playoff. Let the so-called favorites deal with the hype. We'll just keep building.
