Calling it now: Texas Longhorns will finish top 3 nationally in red zone touchdown percentage this season. The numbers from last year were already elite at 87% scoring inside the 20, but the touchdown conversion rate was only 64% and that has to improve. The Noah Roberts commitment changes everything in short yardage. Having a top 4 running back in the 2027 class who runs downhill between the tackles is exactly what was missing when they had to settle for field goals in tight SEC games.
The offensive line reconstruction through the portal addressed the push they lost in short yardage situations. Texas ranked 34th in red zone rushing touchdown percentage last season and that is unacceptable for a program with this talent level. The new personnel combinations in spring practice are clearly designed to create more push on those critical downs inside the 10 yard line.
Arch Manning's deep ball accuracy gets all the headlines but his red zone decision making is what will separate this offense. The QB room completed 72% of their red zone passes last year and that number jumps to 78% minimum with another year in the system. Texas returns enough receiving talent to stretch defenses vertically and open up the underneath routes that convert touchdowns instead of field goals.
The SEC is loaded with defenses that bend but dont break in the red zone. Texas has the horses to finally break them. 70% touchdown rate inside the 20 is the floor for this offense. Mark it.
