People keep acting like Texas is fine at quarterback because they landed a 5-star recruit in the 2026 class. I keep looking at the actual numbers from last season and I don't see how anyone can be comfortable. The Longhorns finished outside the top 40 in QBR as a team and the completion percentage on throws beyond 10 yards was flat out bad. You cannot win a conference title with that kind of efficiency no matter how good the running backs are.
And here is what really gets me. The staff had a full offseason to address this through the portal and they chose to roll with the same room plus a true freshman. That is a gamble. The SEC does NOT forgive bad quarterback play. Look at what happened to Florida last year when Lagway struggled. A team with talent everywhere else becomes unwatchable when the QB can't hit throws. Texas is one bad game away from the same problem.
I keep hearing about the running game and how Kewan Lacy is gonna carry the offense. That helps on early downs but it does not fix third and long. Texas converted at like 38 percent on third down last season and that number drops even further when they needed more than 7 yards. The defense cannot keep bailing out an offense that stalls out in the red zone. Sarkisian needs to prove he can develop this room fast because the schedule does not have any warmup games.
