Everybody pointing at Texas sitting at No. 11 in the 2027 ESPN class rankings with zero five-stars and panicking is missing the actual picture. The Longhorns finished 2025 ranked 6th in SP+ while playing the 4th-toughest schedule in the country per FEI. That schedule included road games at Michigan and Georgia plus the SEC title game. This fall the schedule flips to a much more manageable draw. No Michigan, no Georgia in the regular season. The path to 10 wins is genuinely there with a schedule that ranks closer to 40th nationally. Recruiting rankings matter but they matter a lot less when you're playing a schedule that lets young players develop before the playoff. Texas can afford to take a step back in class rankings when the schedule gives them room to breathe and ACTUALLY win games.
