Can someone explain why nobody is talking about what Texas is doing schematically on defense this spring? Everyone is focused on Arch Manning and the portal additions, but the Longhorns finished 2025 ranked 43rd in third-down defense and allowed 5.3 yards per play in SEC play. That is not getting it done in this conference.
The staff has clearly been working on disguising coverages more post-snap. Watching the spring clips, there is way more two-high shell rotation that shifts into single-high at the snap. That was the weakness last year. The secondary got caught in predictable looks on third and medium and SEC QBs torched them.
If Texas can get that third-down conversion rate under 35% this year, the offense is good enough to win the SEC. But the scheme has to actually evolve.
