Everybody obsessing over the QB room and whether the Longhorns can replace the production from last year is looking at the wrong numbers. The real efficiency story is about what happens when you have a running back who can actually push the defense back on early downs. Noah Roberts committing as the No. 4 RB in the 2027 class is a massive piece of the puzzle that nobody is connecting to the passing game.
Texas ranked 2nd in the SEC in yards per carry last season and that set up everything in the play-action game. When the defense has to respect a downhill run game, the QB's completion percentage jumps 8-10 points on play-action throws alone. That is basic math. Roberts gives the Longhorns that same explosive element for years to come.
The national media keeps talking about quarterback efficiency like it exists in a vacuum. It does NOT. Texas returns its entire offensive line core and now adds a top-5 back to the rotation. The QB efficiency numbers are going to look elite regardless of who is taking the snaps because the structure around them is that good.
Stop asking "can the QB do it" and start asking "can the defense stop the run." That is the real efficiency question.
