The narrative that Texas has a QB problem this fall is lazy and ignores the actual numbers. everybody keeps pointing to the Longhorns ranking 27th nationally in QB efficiency last season and assuming that carries over with a new starter. But that 27th place finish came against the toughest schedule in the country per SP+. The context matters more than the raw ranking.
The real story is what this offense did against elite competition. Texas posted a 158.3 passer rating against top-25 defenses last season, which would have ranked 12th nationally if isolated to those games alone. The new QB is stepping into a system that returns four of the top six pass-catchers by target share and an offensive line that ranked 6th in sack rate allowed. The supporting cast is better than what most top-10 QB efficiency teams had.
