Just saw that CBS piece on teams hurt by no spring portal window and I'm sitting here thinking about how that actually HELPS Texas more than anyone wants to admit. Our QB room is set. The competition in spring ball was about development not scrambling for a starter. While other programs are panicking because they cant plug holes in April, Texas already knows what they have under center.
The quarterback efficiency numbers from last season tell a story that gets lost in all the offseason noise. Texas finished 2025 ranked 11th in QBR as a team. That's not elite yet but its trending in the right direction. The real jump happens when the offensive line gives our QB a clean pocket on early downs. Per SP+ Texas was 23rd in adjusted sack rate allowed. That number needs to be top 15 for the efficiency to take that next step.
The SEC is going to be a gauntlet at quarterback this year. Florida is betting everything on that South Carolina game being a turning point. LSU is reloading. Georgia is Georgia. But Texas has the stability at the position that nobody else in this conference can match right now. No transfer drama. No spring competition that bleeds into fall camp. Just a full offseason of the same system with the same trigger man.
That continuity is worth at least 3-4 points per game in numbers alone.
