Turnover margin is a nice stat for folks who never watched a full game in the 80s. You win close games with defense and a running game, something we understood back when Coach Braxton ran the wishbone. BYU might get a few lucky bounces, but top three in the conference? That requires a disciplined team for a full season, not just a couple of opportunistic weekends. I’ve seen too many teams, including some of our old SWAC rivals, chase turnover luck and get exposed when they face a physical offensive line that doesn’t make mistakes. Remember the '98 Magic City Classic? We won that game by controlling the clock with the fullback dive, not by gambling for interceptions. This modern obsession with a single stat is how you lose the games that truly matter. BYU will learn, just like everyone else does, that real toughness doesn't show up on a turnover margin sheet.
