Wait so I just saw the ESPN 2027 recruiting class rankings and Texas is sitting outside the top 10 right now and I already know the panic is starting. But here is what nobody is talking about. The Longhorns just landed two blue-chip defenders in two days with Kasi Currie and Jabarrius Garror. That is a top-3 defensive tackle and the No. 4 edge in the country. In two days. In June. During the dead period. That is not a program in trouble. That is a program stacking foundational pieces while everybody else is fighting over five-star skill guys.
The narrative that Texas is falling behind because the 2027 class ranking is lower than Ohio State or Georgia right now completely ignores how Sarkisian builds. The Longhorns have never been a program that loads up early in a year. They identify their guys, they evaluate hard, and they close late. Currie and Garror are exactly the kind of blue-chip trench players that win games in the SEC. You cannot win in this league without dominating the line of scrimmage and Texas just added two of the best in the country at doing exactly that.
And here is the part that drives me crazy. People look at the raw class ranking and scream about falling behind but they do not look at the actual roster construction. Texas has a top-10 class in 2026 with a five-star quarterback and a five-star edge. The 2027 class is still taking shape. Currie is the No. 52 overall player in the SC Next 300 and Garror is the No. 4 outside linebacker. Those are not filler croots. Those are the kind of players that anchor a defense for three years.
The SEC is still the top conference. Georgia is sitting at No. 1 in the 2027 rankings and that is fine. Texas does not need to beat them in June. The Longhorns need to beat them in November. And the way you do that is by stacking defensive linemen who can hold up against the run and rush the passer. Currie and Garror are exactly that. The panic is premature. The foundation is being laid.
