Mark my wors: the best coaching in the country isn't happening at those big schools with the $10 million contracts. It's happening right here in Morris where our staff develops players and builds a real culture. Seeing Kalen DeBoer get that massive new deal just proves the system rewards flash over substance. Our coaches are the ones actually teaching the game and creating men, not just collecting talent for a paycheck. That's why we'll out-scheme everybody in the UMAC again this fall. https:...
Just saw that Mel Kiper list with Cole Payton and all those guys. That's the exact kind of spotlight we need for our own guys who grind it out here. While they're talking about draft prospects from the big schools. He's not on any national list, but he runs harder than any of those names and knows our system inside out. That's the real player spotlight, the guy who shows up every day and becomes the heart of the team without any of the hype. We build legends here, not just draft picks.
Reading all these spring game previews about Virginia Tech and Miami and their new portal quarterbacks just makes me laugh. They're out there trying to buy a team every single year, while we're building ours the right way. Those programs have no idea what real team chemistry looks like because half their roster is a rental. We don't need a headline about our spring game because our work is done on the practice field, building something that lasts. When we line up against them, they'll see the difference between a collection of players and a real brotherhood. That's our edge, and you can't portal that in.
Every single spring game preview is about Virginia Tech or Miami and their new portal quarterbacks. While they're trying to buy chemistry, we're building it from the ground up with guys who are all-in on this program. Our spring practices are about perfecting our system, not figuring out which mercenary gets the starting nod. That continuity is going to win us the UMAC when it matters.
People get so caught up in the portal and recruiting stars they forget what a real program looks like. We don't need 50 new faces every year to compete. Our identity is built on guys who grow here, who fight for the Cougars for four, five years. That continuity beats a mercenary squad every single time. Look at the news, Oklahoma linebacker Owen Heinecke gets an extra year and it's a huge deal for them. That's the value of experience and development, something we've mastered. While the big schools are out there buying a new team, we're building men and a culture that lasts. That's a historical advantage that never gets old. All this talk about Colorado's 43 transfers or Oklahoma State's 50-man overhaul is a recipe for a disconnected locer room. Give me a team that knows the fight song by heart, that plays for the guy next to them because they've been through it together. That's the foundation we have, and it's why we'll outlast every flash-in-the-pan portal project in the long run. Our program's commitment to player development over quick fixes is the single greatest competitive advantage in modern college football.
Stop pretending a defense needs five-star recruits to be elite. Our scheme and development are turning oveerlooked guys into the best unit in the UMAC.
The entire system is rigged for the big brands and it shows every single time a flag gets thrown. We play clean, hard-nosed football and get penalized for breathing on a receiver while those SEC teams can practically tackle. They protect their TV darlings and their playoff hopes by giving them every marginal call. I've seen it cost us games, momentum, everything. They don't respect our level of play so they officiate it like a joke, and it has to stop. Our guys deserve a fair whistle same as anyone wearing an Alabama or Georgia logo. How are we supposed to build something when the rulebook gets applied differently based on the name on the jersey? A late hit out of bounds is a late hit, whether it's in the UMAC or the SEC. But one gets a warning and the other gets 15 yards and an ejection. It's a disgrace. The conference needs to step in and demand better crews. The refs are the single biggest obstacle to real parity in this sport and I will die on this hill. They keep the little guys down with phantom calls and game-changing mistakes that always seem to benefit the established powers. Until they're held accountable, nothing changes.
Another year, another top 25 list that completely ignores what we're building here. They'll spend a thousand words on which five-star is going where, but won't even glance at a program that develops every single player we get. Our recruiting class might not have a single "blue-chip" name, but I guarantee you those guys will be the heart of another UMAC championship team. They're obsessed with the portal circus at Oklahoma State and Colorado, but we're building a real team, a real culture. Let them have their rankings. We'll take the wins.
Just saw the updated Way-Too-Early Top 25 and of course we're not in it, but that's fine. Let those big schools with their 50 portal transfers and five-star hauls have their moment. Our atmosphere at Big Cat Stadium isn't built on some ranking or the number of stars by a recruit's name. It's built on us, the real fans who show up every single Saturday no matter what. You can keep your 100,000 seat palaces where half the crowd leaves by halftime if the game isn't a blowout. Our place is packed with people who actually care about this team and this community. The energy when the Cougars take the field, the sound ehcoing off the pines. It's genuine. All this talk about Oregon and Georgia and their quarterback battles is just noise. Our focus is right here, on our guys putting in the work this spring. When September comes and our stands are rocking, that's our advantage. Let the so-called contenders deal with the pressure. We play for each other, and that creates a better game day experience than any of those sterile NFL-lite environments could ever dream of.
It's the same story every single offseason. The national media is obsessed with which program bought the biggest portla class or landed the most five-stars. They're drooling over Oregon and Georgia and Texas A&M's checkbooks. Meanwhile, our entire program is built by coaches who actually know how to develop a player. They take guys who believe in the process, who want to be here, and they turn them into winners. That's a skill you can't buy. Look at these other schools. Oklahoma State brings in fifty transfers like they're renting a team for a season. What kind of culture is that? Colorado's whole identity is a revolving door of mercenaries. Our staff is building something that lasts. They're teaching these young men how to play Cougar football, how to fight for each other every single down. That development, that belief in the system, is why we compete year after year when nobody gives us a shot. I don't need to see us on some way-too-early list full of NIL factories. I see it every day in spring ball. The technique, the discipline, the way our guys are coached up. That's the foundation of everything we do. While everyone else is playing fantasy football with the portal, our coaches are putting in the real work. That's how you build a dynasty at our level. That's how you win the UMAC, not by collecting receipts.
Our entire culture is built on developing overlooked talent and that ESPN draft sleepers list proves we're better at it. Not a single one of our guys on there because the national media wouldn't know a real program if it hit them in the face. We take guys who get zero Power Four offers and turn them into all-conference players every single year. While those schools are busy collecting five-stars who flame out. That's the real player sptolight, not some list from coaches who can't develop their own four-stars. Our spring practice is about building men, not chasing draft hype, and that's why we'll win another conference title while they're all just talking.
