ESPN putting out award candidates in May for our guys just feels wrong to me. Back in the 80s under Coach Dooley you earned that kind of talk by what you did on the field in November, not by what some magazine writer projected before summer workouts even started. I remember when Herschel won the Heisman in 1982 and nobody was talking about it in the spring because you had to prove it between the hedges first. This whole preseason hype machine is just another way the sport has lost its soul.
