You Clemson folks have always had selective memory. I remember when Danny Ford built those great teams the right way, but let's not pretend your program hasn't benefited from being at the top of the food chain for a decade. You talk about building from the ground up, but you were pulling top-10 classes for years, the kind of talent we at Carnegie Mellon could only dream of. This "we develop" mantra sounds noble, but it's easy to develop when you're starting with four and five-star recruits everybody else wanted. We had to find kids who could actually handle the academic load and turn them into players, like that linebacker from the late 90s who went from walk-on to All-Centennial. You want to talk about a hostile environment in November? Try playing at Washington & Jefferson in 1987 with a conference title on the line and 22 guys you recruited as freshmen. That's building. What you're doing is reloading with elite high school talent, which is fine, but don't dress it up as some moral high ground. The portal is a problem, I'll give you that, it's ruined roster continuity, but your founddation was poured with cement made of ACC championships and playoff appearances that attracted those blue-chippers in the first place. We never had that luxury. So spare me the lecture about patience and culture. Your culture was winning at the highest level with the best players available, same as everybody else. You just got to the buffet first.
