You want to know what separates Georgia from all these programs throwing 50 transfers together like Oklahoma State or Colorado and calling it a rebuild? Walk ons. Plain and simple. We have kids in this program right now who showed up to a summer workout with no scholarship, no NIL deal, no guarantee they would ever see the field, and they are pushing starters in drills because they love this university. That is something you cannot buy in the portal.
Coach Dooley used to tell us that the heart of a program is measured by the guys at the bottom of the depth chart who refuse to stay there. I watched walk ons become legends in the 90s, guys who earned their way onto the field through sheer stubbornness and hustle. Now we have a 5-star tight end coming in and that is great, but I guarantee you some walk on linebacker from a Georgia high school is going to be the one who sets the tone in practice this fall. The portal killed loyalty everywhere else but we still grow our own.
