You see Oklahoma State bringing in 50 portal transfers under their new coach and Colorado hauling in 43 guys and I just shake my head. Back in the Alvarez era we built through the walk-on program and developed three-star kids from Wisconsin towns you never heard of. That 1993 team that went to the Rose Bowl had maybe 2 or 3 transfers total and they earned every rep in camp not through a bidding war. Now you can basically buy a whole new roster in one offseason and call it a rebuild. The portal killed what made college football special. Loyalty meant something when you bled for the same locker room for four years. Now it is just free agency with helmets.
