I look at these 2026 recruiting rankings and see Georgia sitting at No. 1 and I think about how we used to find players back in the 1980s. Coach Dooley and his staff would drive down to Valdosta or up to Rabun County and watch a kid play both ways in a mud field on Friday night. They would offer him based on how he carried himself on the field and how he treated his mama after the game. Now it is all about who has the biggest NIL bag and who can put together the flashiest highlight reel on social media. These ranknigs flip every week based on who committed where and how many stars the recruiting services decide to give a kid after he goes to a camp. I miss when a commitment meant something and you knew a kid was gonna be in Athens for four years not just until somebody offered him more money to hit the portal.
