Everyone is out here talking about Lincoln Riley saying "it's time" and the 100 days hype piece from ESPN but nobody wants to talk about the actual coaching staff recruiting right now. The dead period is the time when the real work happens behind the scenes and I keep hearing from sources close to the program that our staff is absolutely grinding on the 2027 croots while everyone else is distracted by the NFL Draft. Riley might be the face of the program but the real question is whether our position coaches are closing like they need to in this new NIL era. The crystal ball movement on some of these West Coast targets has been suspiciously quiet and that either means we have silent commits in the bag or we are getting beat by Oregon's bagmen again. Our defensive staff specifically needs to prove they can lock down the 2027 class before the 5-stars start taking OVs to Big Ten rivals. The bump from that Riley ESPN piece only matters if the assistant coaches can turn that momentum into actual signatures on signnig day. We have the 247 composite trending in the right direction but I need to see more buzz from the position coaches on the trail before I buy into the championship window talk. The staff has the resources and the NIL structure in place now there are no more excuses for losing battles to schools that have been recruiting at this level for half the time.
