You can talk about the 2026 SEC preview all you want but the stat that actually decides games in this league is red zone efficiency and nobody is talking about where Florida sits there. The Gators finished last season converting touchdowns on only 58% of their red zone trips inside the SEC which ranked 11th in the conference. That is the single biggest reason this team lost three one-score games and ended up at 7-5 instead of 10-2.
Meanwhile the teams at the top of the SEC like Georgia and Texas both converted over 72% of their red zone trips into touchdowns. That 14 point swing per game in scoring efficiency is the difference between being a contender and being a middle of the pack team that everyone writes off. The new offensive staff has to fix this before anything else matters.
The portal additions and the QB battle are getting all the attention this spring but the red zone numbers tell the real story. Florida has the talent to move the ball between the 20s. The problem has been finishing drives. If the Gators get that touchdown rate up to even 65% this fall the win total jumps by at least two games minimum. That is the math.
