The option was about reading the end man on the line of scrimmage and making a split second decision that decided whether you got three yards or you got your bell rung. That was football. Now we got these spread offenses where everybody lines up in the shotgun and the quarterback never even looks at the defense. The triple option forced a defense to be disciplined.
