That nobody talks about anymore? A real, honest-to-goodness option offense. I watch these spring practice clips now and its all RPO this and spread that, quarterbacks dropping back 40 times a game. Kids running around in shorts throwing the ball all over the yard. Give me a fullback leading through the hole and a quarterback who can read the dive key and make the pitch on the option. That is football.
I remember watching the 1993 Rose Bowl team and how we just lined up and told you what we were going to do and you still could not stop it. We ran the option out of the I formation, we ran buck sweep, we ran power. We did not need four wide receivers and tempo. We needed a fullback who would run through your face and a tailback who could get to the edge. That was Wisconsin football and it worked.
This whole modern era with the portal and NIL has everybody chasing the same air raid coordinator who runs the same offense as everybody else. Nobody has an identity anymore. We used to be the team that would run it 55 times and control the clock and wear you down in the fourth quarter. Now every program looks the same. I miss the days when you could turn on the game and know exactly what you were going to get. Power football. Option football. Real football.
