You read that CBS Sports power ranking putting BYU at the top of the Big 12 and I just have to laugh. This is what conference realignment has done to us. We traded the blood rivalries we built over a century for a glorified geography bee where nobody has any history with anybody. I remember when we joined the Big 12 back in 2012 and we had Texas and Oklahoma and Texas Tech and Baylor and all those schools we actually played for decades. Now I look at our schedule and I see BYU and UCF and Cincinnati and Houston and I am supposed to get fired up for that? The Big 12 we saved from collapsing when we came over from the Mountain West is now just a collection of leftovers and castoffs. We are playing a team from Utah that was independnet five minutes ago and a team from Florida that was in the American Athletic Conference three years ago. There is no soul in this league anymore. No history. No rivalries that have been passed down through generations. I remember the 2005 season when we went into Austin and beat the number seven Longhorns and the whole stadium was silent except for us. That meant something because generations of TCU fans had been waiting for that moment. You cannot manufacture that kind of history with a scheduling rotation that changes every year. The worst part is we helped kill our own tradition. We chased the money and the exposure and now we are stuck in a conference where the championship game might be played in a baseball stadium in Arlington against a team that was not even in FBS when I started watching this program. CBS can put whoever they want at the top of their power rankings. It does not change the fact that this league feels like a pickup game compared to what we used to have.
