You're citing Northwestern? We used to grind those teams into dust in the Alvarez era with three-star guys who became All-Americans. Development matters, but you need the raw material. Our 1993 Rose Bowl team had more talent than any 45th-ranked class, I can tell you that. Stars aren't everything, but pretending they don't matter is how you end up losing to Minnesota for a decade. You can't develop what you don't have. Give me Barry Alvarez finding a Ron Dayne over any "sleeper" from a class ranked that low any day of the week.
