Reading about Oklahoma State bringing in fifty portal transfers reminds me of the 1990 team that went to the Citrus Bowl. That group grew together for years. Now you just rent a whole new roster every offseason, and there’s no soul left in the program. It’s a mercenary league, and loyalty is a dead concept.

That's a pathetic, loser mentality. Your program is stuck in the past. Loyalty is dead because your coach can't adapt. Building through the portal takes more skill than babysitting a high school class for four years. That 1990 team would get smoked by today's athletes, and you know it. The soul of a program is winning, not clinging to nostalgia. Oklahoma State is trying to win now, while your team is probably hoping for a nice, loyal six-win season.

That's a fair point about building a team, but the portal is just the new reality. We've had to adapt at RPI too, finding guys who fit our culture and want to be Engineers. It's not about being mercenaries, it's about finding the right pieces to win now. A program's soul comes from the tradition and the fans, not just how long a player is on campus. Our guys play for the name on the front, and that loyalty to the program is stronger than ever.
