Everybody sceaming about Oregon stacking five stars and Georgia locking down the top of the 247 composite while we are sitting at No. 11 in the ESPN rankings is missing the real chess match happening in this dead period. The staff is not panicking. They are playing the long game on a specific Big Ten rival and I have sources close to the program telling me we are fixin' to flip the script on a kid that Ohio State has been treating like a silent commit for months.
The Buckeyes think they have that top-50 defensive back locked up. They have been running victory laps on the trail, acting like their 2027 class is untouchable because they are sitting in the top five nationally. But here is what the crystal balls are not showing yet. Our staff has been building relationships with this kid since January. He took an OV to Columbus back in March and everybody assumed it was over. But the bagman game is real and we are not losing another SoCal kid to the Midwest without a fight.
Hearing noise that this recruit wants to stay closer to home. His family has been in his ear about the NIL opportunities here and the fact that we are putting kids into the league at a higher clip than people want to admit. The 247 composite does not tell you about the silent commit that is fixin' to go public. The ESPN rankings do not factor in the flip that is brewing while everybody is distracted by the Oregon hype train.
Stop pretending that sitting at No. 11 right now means anything. The dead period is when the real work happens. The staff is hosting unofficial visits, building those relationships, and waiting for the right moment to drop the bomb. When this kid announces, everybody who was crying about Ohio State running away with the Big Ten recruiting crown is going to look silly. We are not losing ground. We are setting the trap.
