ESPN drops their top 100 newcomers list and I scroll through thinking back to the 1981 Sugar Bowl when we had walk-ons who stayed four years and earned every snap. Now we get excited about kids who might be here for one season before they portal out to the highest bidder. The whole concept of building a prorgam through the bowl system and those December practices where you watched freshmen develop over three weeks is completely dead. Teams used to have identity and continuity from October through January. Now you cannot even keep a roster together long enough to know who is running out of the tunnel for the second half of the season.
