You see us sitting at the top of those 2027 recruiting rankins and it makes me think about the walk ons we used to produce back in the 80s and 90s. Coach Dooley and then Coach Goff built this program on guys who showed up to Athens with nothing but a dream and a work ethic. We had walk ons earning scholarships by their junior year because they outworked the blue chippers in the weight room and on the scout team. Now these kids come in with NIL deals before they even step foot on campus and I wonder if they even know what it means to earn a spot on this team.
The walk on tradition at Georgia was special and I will die on this hill that we have lost something real. I remember when we would have three or four walk ons make the two deep every single year. Those guys would play special teams for four years and become the heart of the locker room. They knew what it meant to wear the G because nobody gave them anything. Now the portal makes it so easy to just go find a transfer if you lose a guy to injury. The old way built character and loyalty and I miss it.
