Just saw that 3-star Texas LB kid picked a Big 12 school over Michigan State and I gotta tell you, that used to be the kind of story that built programs. We would find those overlooked kids from the metroplex or the Houston area, develop them over three or four years, and by their senior season they were all-conference. Now that same kid is probably already looking at the portal before he even steps foot on campus for summer workouts. NIL and the transfer portal have turned every single commitment into a temporary lease agreement. You cannot build a defense the way Gary Patterson used to do it when kids actually stayed in the system and learned the scheme. We are gonna see more and more of these mid-tier recruits bounce around three schools in four years and never actually develop into anythiing. The game is worse for it.
