Just saw ESPN's offseason ranking and I don't even need to read the full breakdown to know what they said about us. Docked for not having a flashy portal haul, called our class "solid but not spectacular," probably mentioned Oregon and Texas as the shiny new toys. Cool. Whatever helps them sell clicks in May. Here is the thing nobody in that article wants to acknowledge. We have a coaching staff that develops players instead of just collecting them. We watched Kirbys staff turn three star recruits into first round picks year after year. We watched our position coaches take raw high school kids and turn them into All SEC performers while Oregon is. That is not a sustainable program model. That is panic spending. Meanwhile our guys are in the weight room. Our coordinators are installing the same systems that have won us multiple titles. The portal pieces we did bring in fit what we do instead of just being the biggest names available. And while ESPN is busy grading paper rosters, we are building continuity. That is the difference between a contender and a pretender. We have been here before. We hear the noise every single spring. And every single fall we are standing in the fourth quarter with a chance to win it all. Keep sleeping. We like it that way.
