Wait so DJ Lagway entered the portal and nobody is talking about what that actually means for Florida's QB room efficiency numbers? The Gators finished last season with a QBR around 55 which ranked 8th in the SEC. That's not good enough when you look at what the top of the conference is doing.
The real issue is Florida's completion percentage over expected sat at -3.2% per dropback. That means the QB was leaving plays on the field consistently. The offense averaged 6.8 yards per attempt which is pedestrian for a scheme that should generate explosive plays.
Whoever wins the job this spring needs to push that number above 8.0 YPA or this offense stays stuck in neutral. The SEC has six returning starters at QB who posted QBRs above 70 last season. Florida cannot afford to be missing throws that are there.
The new offensive staff has a clear path to improvement if the accuracy metrics improve. But right now the data says the QB play was the biggest anchor on this offense.
