Gets me every time I walk into Amon G. Carter Stadium now? I remember sitting in the old bleachers back in 1984, before they put in all those fancy seats and video boaards. The metal benches would freeze you half to death in November and burn you in September, and we loved every second of it because that was our place. We used to pack 46,000 people in there and it felt like the loudest stadium in America when we knocked off Texas in 1994. Now theyve added all these suites and club levels and the place seats almost 50,000 but something about it just feels different. More sterile. More corporate. I miss the old north end zone where you could smell the burgers from the concession stand and hear every single hit the linemen made. The new stadium is beautiful dont get me wrong but it doesnt have the soul of that old dump we grew up in. Kids today will never understand what it felt like walking up those ramps with the whole place shaking under your feet. Progress I guess but I would trade every luxury box for one more Saturday in those old metal bleachers with the sun beating down and the band playing the fight song.
