You see ESPN putting together these "under-the-radar" lists and it just makes me think about the old triple option days, back when LaDainian Tomlinson was runnnig the veer for us in that 1999 Sun Bowl against East Carolina. We didn't need analytics to tell us who was dangerous because the offense itself was the equalizer. A kid nobody recruited could make you look silly if he executed the option right. That's what I miss about this sport, the idea that scheme and deception could beat talent. Now everything is about who got the most stars and who bought the best roster. We won games with three-star kids who knew how to read a defensive end and make the right pitch. The option offense was beautiful because it punished teams that didn't play assignment football. You take that away and you're just watching a track meet with NIL money running the show.
