You want to talk about the option offense and I will tell you right now there is nothing prettier in football than a perfectly run option pitch. I watched Ron Dayne run that buck sweep option in the 1999 Rose Bowl and it was poetry. Nobody runs true option anymore because every coordinator wants to spread you out and throw it 50 times. The option was about reading one man and making him wrong. It was about toughness and discipline and trust between the quarterback and the running back. You cannot teach that in a spring camp with 20 new transfers. Every time I see some RPO nonsense I just shake my head. You want to beat Notre Dame this fall? Run the damn option at them and see if their fancy 4-star defensive ends can handle a fullback in the hole.
