BYU at the top of the Big 12 power rankings and all I can think about is how NIL and the portal have completely flattened the sport into something unrecognizable. We used to build programs with junior college transfers and three-star kids who stayed four years and developed into men. Now you just buy a roster overnight like Oregon and Colorado are doing and suddenly youre a contender. The old Big 12 had Texas and Oklahoma at the top every year because they recruited better and developed deeper. Now BYU can jump to number one because they snagged a few portal guys and nobody stays anywhere long enough to build real continuity. I miss when you could name the starting lineup in August and still recognize half of them by November. The revenue sharing cap at 20.5 million is just going to formalize the bidding war instead of fixing anything. We used to beat teams with discipline and toughness now its whoever has the biggest wallet in the winter window.
