Just saw Kirby talking about all this young talent on SEC Now and I got to thinking about something we lost in this sport that breaks my heart. You watch these spread offenses throwing it 50 times a game with these RPO reads and quarterback runs and I cannot help but remember when the option offense was a thing of beauty. Back in the 1984 season under Coach Dooley we ran the wishbone better than anybody in the country and there was nothing prettier than watching a fullback take the dive fake and the quarterback pulling it and reading that defensive end. You could control the clock and the game and the whole stadium knew what was coming and you still could not stop it. These kids today will never understand the art of the pitch. The mesh point and the timing and the discipline it took to run that offense. Now everything is about NIL and highlight reels and nobody teaches the veer option anymore. I would give annything to see us line up in the old I formation with a triple option look just once against one of these fancy defenses. That was real football.
