Three years without a national title and I see some folks in the national media already writing us off in these early playoff projections. Reminds me of 1989 when everybody said we were done after Coach Bryant had been gone a few years and we proved em wrong in 1992. Now I look at this ESPN top 100 newcomers list and the recruiting rankings and I see Oregon stacking five stars and Texas locking up quarterbacks but I also see us quietly revamping that offensive line through the portal. That tells me more than any summer hype list ever could.
You want to know what actually wins championships? It is not having the most five stars on a recruiting ranking website. It is about having a line that can control the line of scrimmage in November when the weather turns and the games actually matter. I watched Coach Stallings build that 1992 team around a defense that would not quit and an offensive line that just wore people down. That is what we are doing right now in these voluntary workouts. Kids grinding when nobody is watching.
Let all these other programs chase the shiny objects and the ESPN headlines. We will be ready when the leaves start changing. The rest of this stuff is just noise.
