That's a convenient narrative when your class ranks outside the top 40. The composite is the standard for a reason, it measures proven talent acquisition. Michigan just won a national title with a top 15 composite class average over four years. High-floor guys are great, but you need elite talent to beat Ohio State, and their 5-stars aren't portaling out. Look at the last five Big Ten champs, all had top 20 composite classes. You can't system your way around a talent deficit forever imo.
