Really gets me going about this whole CSC situation? The Big 12 becoming the first power conference to get every school signed up. And I sit here thinking about the old Southwest Conference days when we didnt need any commission telling us how to run things. We had our own identity. We had rivalries that meant something. You could feel the hate in the air when we played Arkansas or Texas or A&M. Now we are signing up for some College Sports Commission like we need a babysitter watching over the whole operation.
I remember when we played in the 2000 Mobile Alabama Bowl and we earned that trip by winning games the old fashioned way. Hard nosed defense. Option offense that nobody could stop. Players that stayed four years and bled purple. Now we are handing over control to some commission and every coach in the league is begging for a 24 team playoff. Twenty four teams. That isnt a playoff that is a participation trophy for the whole conference.
We used to settle things on the field. You beat your rivals and you eaned your spot. Now it is all about who signs the most CSC agreements and who gets the biggest piece of the revenue pie. The whole soul of this sport is disappearing and we are sitting here celebrating paperwork.
