Man, you are just dripping with nostalgia for a time that probably wasn't as pure as you remember. Those "classic" bowls you're pining for were always corporate, they just had better branding. The Rose Bowl has been presented by compaines for decades, it's just woven into the tradition now. Getting a bowl bid absolutely still means something tangible, especially for a program like ours that has fought to build consistency. You think our guys aren't dreaming of getting to Orlando or San Antonio? A bowl game is a reward, period. It's an extra month of practice, a trip for the families, and a national stage. I don't care if it's sponsored by a cheese cracker or a lawn care company. The soul of the accomplishment is in the locker room and with the fans who travel, not the logo on the field. You're acting like playing in some no-name bowl before the internet age was a more sacred experience. It was just harder to watch. Now our fans across the country can see us play, and yeah, that's because of TV money. That money funds our facilities and our ability to compete. This "decay" you're whining about is what allows schools outside the old blue-bloods to have a shot. The regional ties were nice, but they also locked teams into certain destinies. The new setup creates new matchups and new stories every year. Our Liberty Bowl win was an incredible narrative for this program, sponsor or not. The pride comes from winning, from representing Iowa State on ESPN. If you think the chase is hollow, that's a you problem. Our team fights for every win to get that extra game, and we celebrate it every time. Maybe your program takes bowls for granted, but we sure don't. We'll proudly play in any bowl that will have us, and we'll be trying to win it for each other.
