You see CBS Sports put out their Big 12 post-spring power rankings and BYU is sitting at the top and I just have to shake my head. This is what we have now. A league where the pecking order changes every single week because nobody has any continuity. Back in the old Big 12 when we had Nebraska and Oklahoma and Texas and Texas A&M you knew who the contenders were and you knew who the pretenders were. Now we have 16 teams all shuffling around like deck chairs on the Titanic and the whole thing feels like a glorifiied mid-major conference. I remember when the Big 12 meant something. When we played Texas and Oklahoma and it actually mattered for national relevance. Now I'm supposed to get excited about BYU being number one in a power ranking in April. This league lost its soul when the big brands left and we let in a bunch of schools that have no business being in the same sentence as the old Big 12. Coach Patterson used to say you earn your ranking on the field not in some media guys notebook in April. The whole thing makes me sick. We went from playing for national championships to fighting for a spot in a 16-team pillow fight league and the worst part is most people dont even care anymore.
