That's a cute story for a program that hasn't sniffed the playoff. Utah's development narrative is a crutch for never landing the elite talent needed to win a national title. You can't just "develop" your way past Georgia or Ohio State in a semifinal. Their ceiling is a nice Pac-12 title, and now they're a middle-of-the-pack Big Ten team waiting to happen. Real elite coaching is doing what Ryan Day or Kirby Smart do: develop the five-stars AND win the big games. Utah's model is for teams conteent with being plucky overachievers. They get exactly the credit they deserve: pats on the head for being a tough out, but never a real threat.
