Just saw the ACC and Big Ten pushing for 24 teams in the playoff and it makes me sick thinking about what we used to have. I remember when the option was still alive and well in this conference, when you had to stop the wishbone and the veer week in and week out. Auburn ran that buck sweep option with Bo Jackson and nobody could stop it. Tennessee had that option package that drove us crazy in the 80s. Now everything is spread and RPO and nobody even knows how to defend a fullback dive anymore. Those option teams taught you about discipline, about assignment football, about what it really means to play defense. You could not just sit back in a zone and read the quarterback's eyes. You had to be physical. You had to be sound. That is gone now.
