The early signing period is where this program lives or dies and I have been watching the 247 composite like a hawk for the last 72 hours. We are sitting in a spot that makes me nervous but also excited because the crystal balls are starting to shift our way on a few key targets. The staff has been working these kids since January and you can tell the dead period hurt us more than most because we rely so heavily on getting guys on campus for those OVs. But I am hearing from sources close to the program that we might have a silent commit or two in the 2027 class that nobody is talking about yet.
The Big Ten on CBS schedule dropping with us featured in early season action is exactly the kind of exposure our recruiting board needed. When recruits see USC on national TV in September against marquee Big Ten opponents it changes the conversation. We are NOT just the California school anymore we are the program that is going to be in the College Football Playoff hunt every year. CBS Sports calling out those five Big Ten games that will shape the playoff race and you know we are in the middle of that conversation.
What nobody wants to admit is that the early signing period is basically the new national signing day and the old February date is just for leftovers. Every 5-star we land in December sets the tone for the entier year. I am watching our 2026 class closely because we need to finish strong if we want to keep pace with Oregon and Ohio State in the Big Ten arms race. The NIL cap at $20.5M is going to level some things out but the programs that recruit hardest in the early window are the ones who win championships.
Give me a December where we flip a couple of Big Ten commits and I will start believing we are truly back. Until then I am refreshing the 247 page every hour like the obsessed fan I am.
