Wait so ESPN just dropped their 2027 recruiting rankings and Florida is sitting at number 24 nationally and people are already acting like the sky is falling. Let's be real for a second. These are 2027 rankings. These kids are sophomores in high school. Half of them haven't even played a full varsity season yet. The idea that Florida Gators should be panicking about where we stand 18 months before signing day is just not supported by anything.
The 2026 class is still the one that matters for the next two seasons and Florida's 2026 haul is sitting around 11th nationally with some serious talent in the pipeline. The ESPN rankings are based on early evaluations that shift dramatically once junior film drops and camp season hits. Texas and Oregon loading up on 2027 five-stars right now is impressive on paper but the hit rate on these early rankings is nowhere near as strong as people think.
Florida needs to close strong on a few priority targets in this year and the staff knows exactly who they are targeting. The portal is also gonna be a factor for every program going forward with the new winter-only window. Panicking about where a class ranks in June of the sophomore year is just noise. Let's check back when these kids are actually signing LOIs.
