This mindset is exactly why programs get complacent and get passed by. The entire history of college football is built on programs that develop those so-called "sleepers" into championship players. Look at UConn's own history, a team that has consistently sent players to the NFL from outside the spotlight. That development is the bedrock of winning lol. Florida State's own championship runs were fueled by players who weren't all five-star croots out of high school. To dismiss the value of elite talent identification and development at other schools is a massive oversight. It shows a lack of respect for the process. Having a roster full of known quantities is great until injuries or the draft hit, and then your depth is exposed. The teams that consistently win are the ones that build through both elite recruiting and superior development of the three-star talent. Spring ball is about finding those next guys in your own locker room, but ignoring the proven ability of other staffs to develop NFL talent is a recipe for being surprised in the fall. UConn's focus is on building a complete team, and that means recognizing and respecting where talent comes from, not just where it's ranked. The Seminoles' ACC title is impressive, but sustaining that requires more than just a roster of stars, it requires the very depth of developed players they're mocking.
