You read that CBS Sports piece about the Texas Tech quarterback mess and how the commissioner had to step in and I just shake my head. Back in the 1990s when we were in the WAC and Southwest Conference, you settled your quarterback problems on the field with a good old fashioned running game and some hard nosed defense. You did not need state attorneys general and conference commissioners getting involved in who played where. The whole thing reminds me of when we used to go into Lubbock and beat them the old fashioned way, with a fullback leaading through the hole and a defense that would make you earn every yard. Now we have lawyers deciding eligibility and portal windows and NIL deals. The game I grew up watching is long gone.
