Watching Monroe Freeling go 19th overall to Carolina and seeing Oscar Delp and Daylen Everette come off the board in the third round and it just hits me different this time of year. We used to send these boys off to the NFL and it felt like the end of a long journey you watched unfold over four years. You remember when guys like that would come in as freshmen and you would watch them grow in the weight room and on the scout team before they ever saw the field. Now with the portal and everyone jumping around it is just a revolving door. You blink and a kid you recruited is gone before he even learns the fight song. The draft is special but it used to feel like the final chapter of a book you read cover to cover instead of just skimming the back cover.
