I scrolled through ESPN's top 100 newcomers list and I will tell you what I saw. A bunch of mercenaries. Kids bouncing from school to school chasing the biggest NIL bag. Back in the late 80s when Don Morton was running things, you committed to Wisconsin because you wanted to be a Badger. You sat through the 3-8 seasons and you earned your stripes. These kids today have no loyalty. They see a bigger check and they are gone before the ink dries on their jersey.
You want to know how we built the great teams of the 90s and early 2000s? We did it the old fashioned way. We found a kid from Waukesha or a farm boy from Tomah who had something to prove. We developed him in the weight room for three years and by the time he was a junior he was pancaking deffensive ends. That is how you build a program. Not by buying a transfer class off the internet. The portal has turned college football into free agency and I hate everything about it.
